< An event for the entire family is coming to Augusta on September 26 & 27, 2009. The Ford Trucks Equestrian Balloon Festival has something for everyone. The Festival will be held at Barton Field at Fort Gordon Army Base. Thirty thousand people are expected to attend.
Twenty plus hot air balloons will take off from Barton Field each morning at 6:30 AM. A mass ascension is an amazing site. Guests are invited to walk among the six and seven story balloons as they inflate and lift off. On Saturday night the balloons will return to the field for a Balloon Glow. At dusk each balloon will inflate and hit their burners and illuminate their envelopes. As the balloons glow the U.S. Army Signal Corp. Band will perform a patriotic concert.
On the equestrian side we will feature a Breed Pavilion with horses from various disciplines from polo to jumping to miniatures. Unique horse competitions will be held all weekend. On Saturday golfers will go head to head with polo players on horseback for a long ball-hitting contest.
In addition to the balloons and horse related events there will be a carnival and jump houses for the kids, pony rides, tether balloon rides, vendors, food and drinks. Proceeds will go to the families of our Service Men and Women from Fort Gordon Army Base.
Attendees will also be treated with a complimentary copy of the Aiken / Augusta Equestrian Yearbook for supporting the troops.
